Many of you have heard of Brand About Town and how awesome they are. But in case you haven’t, here’s the rundown. Brand About Town is the most amazing marketing firm in the world. Justine contacted to me a couple months ago (after the absolutely lovely Nicole Antoinette recommended me) and asked if I wanted to be a Gap Enthusiast. That basically entails accepting gifts and throwing a party. Oh, and they said if I wanted to I could talk about it on blogs, twitter, etc. (they didn’t tell me I had to… but I think they knew me well enough already, to be able to see I like talking).
Now, after my little interview with Justine, she took me shopping at the Gap and let me buy a new outfit. So I knew I was going to like this right away. But I have to be honest for a minute, I am not a big Gap shopper. I LOVE their ribbed tank tops (perfect for the gym!) and I buy my dad lots of Gap polos for gifts. But otherwise, most Gap clothing has always been over-sized on me and makes me think of middle school, when I had a thing for wearing over-sized khakis. But I actually found a super cute outfit when I was with Justine, so I figured, “hey, I’ll give this a try.” And then, I received this in the mail:
And it was like someone at Brand About Town knew me really, really well. And knew the moment I saw 6 little lip glosses, I would be sucked in. And I was. Not to mention, that adorable bag, and a bottle of perfume. Close. I love it. And again, Gap perfume used to remind me of middle school. Dream, anyone?
Not to mention this amazingness:
Annnd I haven’t taken it off since. Except for my party (it needed to be cleaned after all). Which brings us to the most exciting part of being a Gap enthusiast. The Born to Fit party! In which I would be presenting (and gifting) Gap’s new line of jeans, 1969, to my guests. For the first time in decades, the Gap has completely re-engineered the way they design jeans. And? They did an awesome job!
First of all, I must say that Chels played a huge part in this party and I most definitely couldn’t have done it without her. I’m sure I was asked to be the brand enthusiast since I’m a blogger all over the place like whoa, but this was Chels’s party too.
For one, you saw the out the incredible sign she made for my front door at the beginning of this post. And for the fitting room, of course:
Um, and the place cards for the food? She used eyelets and snaps for them, replicating denim. Amazing? Yes!
Of course, we had a plethora of food. The theme (another of Chels’s grand ideas) was classic foods with an updated twist. Because, you know, the Gap is pretty classic, but they’re updating their jeans, hence the twist. Oh, and though you can’t see how spic and span my kitchen is, a HUGE thank you goes out to my sister Beth, her fiance Adam, and Chris. They came to my apartment after moving out of their house (Beth and Adam( and spent the whole afternoon cleaning my kitchen. Love them! The boys weren’t even invited to the party, but they still worked their butts off to help make it awesome for me.
Anyway, we munched on mac and cheese cupcakes, meatloaf cupcakes (really just individual, cupcake-size portions of the foods), bacon-wrapped cherries, fruit salsa with cinnamon sugar chips, mint chocolate chip cheesecakes (made by Katie), and ice cream cone cupcakes. And we sipped wine and some lovely blueberry vodka lemonade.
Brand About Town sent me lots of cute Gap stuff like a big serving bowl and little m&m packets. Born to Play!
I made ice cream cone cupcakes for dessert.
I opened up my deck (which I rarely do) and since it was so crazy hot, it was a nice place to hang out.
And then… the jeans!!
By the way, our good friend Katie attended the party. The main reason she was invited is because she used to work at the Gap and was a denim expert!!! Just kidding, she would have been invited anyway But we were interested to hear her opinion. And she said the new line is definitely noticeably different; much more comfortable and designer-like. See? The denim expert speaks!
Meg was super excited to find her perfect “fit” and everyone loved the cute Born to Fit tote bags.
Unfortunately we had no maternity jeans, but I gave Kerry a gift card so she can find her perfect fit once she has her little bundle of joy and is ready for some regular jeans again.
Liz looked seriously awesome in the Sexy Bootcut jeans. They fit her perfectly!!
Karen came into town and she and Sara both found jeans they loved!
My friends are clearly (kind of?) camera shy, as we set up iPhoto in the fitting room and told them to take photos of themselves, but they failed to. Also, Brand About Town was sooo nice and sent me an awesome Flip camera to record the party. But since I am video editing inept, this post doesn’t contain any video (I wanted to get the post up right away). But I’ll be figuring out how to edit it and will create another Born to Fit post video.
One of our favorite Boston bloggers, Susan, joined the party and though she couldn’t find her size, she took a gift card to go check out more sizes in the store. We wish more of our Boston bloggers could have joined us!
Chels and I both found our fits! I really am being totally honest when I say these jeans are awesome! I’m telling you I have not tried Gap jeans on since middle school and probably wouldn’t. Even if you told me they were getting new jeans, I would have said, “meh, no thanks.” But when I got a big box of them in the mail, I obviously put them on. And, really? The Born to Fit 1969 jeans fit like a designer jean. I am obsessed with the Always Skinny jean. Obsessed. And the Real Straight? Real amazing. The Sexy Boot were a bit long on me, but since these jeans are so much cheaper than the average designer jean, it would be no big deal to get them hemmed.
And that was the main issue that people had with the new jeans. They were a bit long. But, I cannot even tell you how many people raved about the jeans and how surprised they were by them. Most of my guests said they wouldn’t ever go to the Gap for jeans, but that they actually really, really loved these. And I could tell they weren’t just saying that.
Check out the Always Skinny on me. I’m not one to brag, but cute, right? I wish Kyle kept her jeans on too because the straight AND the boot cut looked awesome!
So, in case you can’t tell I’m slightly obsessed with the Gap. Not just because they sent me all this cool stuff and gave me an excuse for an awesome party, but because I actually really like these jeans. And feel great in them.
