Melis and I are enjoying some time away in St. Augustine, Florida this week! We came up last time in March but decided to get a little more summer in our systems before the cold officially hits New England.
Sunday Melis’ parents, Vicki and Paul, took us, along with her brother’s Nick and Mark and Nick’s girlfriend Linda, out on their boat for a ride along the Intercoastal. There was an adorable blue eyed cat named Chloe at the marina where the boat was docked! I couldn’t stop petting her she was so soft, even though I’m pretty allergic to cats. What can I say, I like to live on the edge!

Vicki also packed a nice selection of cheeses, veggies, dips, and crackers for us to munch on while enjoying the ride!

Monday consisted of…. a day at the gym! We got up bright and early to hit up a yoga class, followed immediately by a Bosu/Step class, both of which were fantastic! We got back to the house, rested, had lunch at Oasis, then went to a ZUMBA class! The instructor, Sara, was HIGH HIGH energy and didn’t stop working us! It was definitely a great sweat and we are feeling nice and sore today! After ZUMBA, Melis and I made her parents dinner… Fettuccine, Escarole and Brie…even though we just had it a couple weeks ago for dinner!

I was secretly excited because we had to make a special stop in Winn Dixie to pick up the escarole and I’d always wanted to stop in… cause it’s just so Southern!
Today was a day of getting over fears! Melis’ parents took us to a shooting range! Something I never ever in a million years thought I’d do, but it was a lot of fun to be able to (somewhat) get over something that has always freaked me out beyond belief, especially knowing we were just shooting at targets and not people or animals! I’m not the biggest fan of really loud noises… guns being just that! When I was younger I was afraid of everything, probably even my own shadow. I was also afraid of lightening and one of my parents friends nicknamed me “Lighting Bolt”… sweeeeeet! Basically, I was horrible at the shooting range this afternoon, which could probably be a good thing… ha! I definitely have a whole new level of respect for anyone who has to carry one of these things around for a living… wow! And note to self: wearing a sparkly headband doesn’t make me look tough, even if I am holding a gun!

Melis was awesome at it though, she even hit the bull’s eye… dead center! Not bad at all for your first time! I was impressed and plan on bringing her everywhere with me… just in case

After the shooting range we decided to go shopping… something I can always excel at
! I still had some gift cards to use up from my birthday so we went to the St. John’s Town Center shopping area. This place is insane and is literally like a real live town or village! It’s all outside but there are so many stores here that you probably can’t even walk it all! I loved the Urban Outfitters too… the doors are gorgeous!

For dinner tonight we went to Mikato Japanese Steakhouse…’twas delightful! We ordered sushi and a noodle and beef dish. My favorite was the Crazy Roll, which was deep fried with salmon, tuna, whitefish, and asparagus! I might need to stop back in before we head home to eat it again!

(and we really miss Katie… the three of us usually take this trip together!)
That’s all for now… we’re up at the crack of dawn for a hot yoga class tomorrow morning! Hope you all are enjoying your week so far!

Whoa you look like a total bad ass at the range. Being from VA and all
we went shooting all the time. I really miss that. So many people are scared to try it, but it is actually a lot of fun.
Looks like you two are having tons of fun!! Enjoy the trip
i want to move into that urban outfitters!
Aww – this post gave me the warm tinglies because I grew up in Jacksonville and spent so much time in St. Augustine. When the Town Center opened, it was a dream come true – unfortunately they waited to open it until I left for college, but whenever I go back to visit family, I always have to stop in! Surprisingly, I’ve never eaten at Mikato so I’m going to force my friends to go next time I’m home!
I stumbled upon your blog while looking for Simple Gesture’s phone number – I grew up in Boston and now live in St. Augustine, we are having dinner at Gypsy Cab Co. tonight, so if you are out and about, stop by to say hi!
