A few weeks ago, Dove’s PR team approached us and asked if we would be interested in hosting a VIP party, sponsored entirely by them, to share with our friends the new Dove Visibly Smooth Deodorant. We both absolutely love Dove, so, yes please! They also mentioned they would cover the cost of food and decorations, supply us with the new deodorant along with fancy jewelry to give to our guests, and send us a FlipCam to record the party. Dreams really do come true, kids!
We decided to throw a Beautify Yourself for Spring/Summer Party this past Saturday which, conveniently enough, happened to be the first day of Spring. The change of a new season is always something to celebrate, especially when it involves nice weather in the near future. Plus, with the dreary feelings winter often brings, it was a great opportunity to brighten things up a bit, and do something to make all of us feel good and refreshed! We invited one of our childhood friends, make-up artist Jessica Taylor, to come over and share some trends in Summer makeup and some other helpful make-up tips that us girls can never seem to get enough. We also made homemade body scrubs and peppermint lip scrubs for all the girls to take home to help get rid of all the dry winter skin the cold weather leaves us with!
The Deodorant
Dove is a brand that has never disappointed us and that continues to hold true with their new line of Visibly Smooth Deodorant. The deodorant has Pro-Epil Complex which contains natural extracts that protect against wetness and odor but make you feel stubble-free for longer! “99% of women who tried Visibily Smooth would recommend it to a friend!” It’s also one of the best-smelling deodorants we’ve ever used! Perfect for tank top season!

The Spread
Since we spent all winter hoarding comfort food, we decided to make some dishes that were a bit healthier than your average party foods. As the girls arrived, we had glasses of champagne with raspberries for them…

Homemade Pita Chips with hummus and Sues’ delightful Sausage, Grape, and Gorgonzola Flatbreads

Grilled Asparagus and Quinoa Salad with Goat Cheese and Black Olive Vinaigrette

The delicious pasta dish the chef/owners of Nebo taught us how to make!

And some Zesty Baked Chicken Wings (which were not photographed).
The Evening
We wanted the night to be centered around good food and quality time with girl friends. In attendance were both of our sisters (Des and Beth), Beth’s matron-of-honor Stef, Julia Rappaport (I always feel like I have to say Julia’s full name… it sounds like that of a celebrity…which she will be one day.), Nina, my roommate Siri, and Susan. What’s better than a bunch of girls getting together and talking about make-up and beauty products while stuffing our faces with deliciousness and wine? Absolutely nothing else in the world.
We’ve known Jess since 6th grade and she is a ball of energy, positivity, and she is extremely passionate about make-up. She worked for MAC cosmetics for 5 years, does weddings, photo-shoots, and has worked on some of Boston’s movie sets, too. The girl knows her stuff, and with us knowing this, we wanted her to share some of her knowledge with us. She got to my apartment with cases and cases filled with every kind of make-up you can possibly think of. Then it was time to play!

I was rushing around so much before the party started trying to get everything together that I didn’t have time to put make-up on, so Jess used me as a model since my face was already bare. This is the before:

And the after:

Then it was Sues’ turn to get her lips done. Neither of us ever wear lipstick on a regular basis so it was fun to experiment! And I was actually a little nervous, as you can tell in the video. RED LIPS?! woah… but I’m not going to lie, I kinda loved it! We all thought Sues looked wonderful with her lips done, too!

For detailed clips on how to apply the make-up, we’ve broken down each component. Eyes, Face, and Lips, and some other goodies. There may or may not be a reference to Twilight, among other odd topics, in some of the videos.

Thank you to Jess for coming out and teaching us so many helpful tricks and tips! If you’re in need of a make-up artist for any event she comes highly recommended by us! And a huge thank you to Dove for providing us with the tools for throwing a fabulous party!

What a fantastic party! It’s always fun to play with makeup, and I love Dove, too. Love their new campaigns.
And this is me, so mad I wasn’t able to attend. Makeup? Food? Susan F? The Martha ladies? Alcohol? = Stuff that makes me happy. But the good news is, I’m a HUGE fan of Dove Deodorant- its the only stuff I buy!
Oh snap.. the girls got video!
I 2nd JulieQ — Looks like fun – and I wish I could have made it!! you ladies always put on the best parties! I’m also a huge dove fan – only deodorant, soap AND shampoo that I use!!
okay your party looks like so much fun, love the makeovers!
Looks like so much fun, and I love the videos! Plus champagne and strawberries?! What a wonderful combination!
looks so fun! love the addition of raspberries in the champagne, rather than strawberries. i used to use dove all the time but now you ladies have me thinking i might need to switch back to old faithful
So fun! It was so good to see you guys.
looks like you guys had a blast!! wish i could have made it for the fun!
What a great party! Jess did an amazing job
Had a great time! Thanks – and love the video (and the flatbread pizzas. jeez those were delicious)
and a week later, I’m still sad i missed it (and just now catching up on the videos – slacker)! ditto on everything julieq said. see you girls soon! xo
Looks like you girls had a fun time. It is just a strange topic to talk about, deodorant, but I swear by the Dove brand! When the Ultimate visibly smooth line came out I tried it and now won’t use anything else. And, it truly does work like it says it does! The only sad part is that not every store in Chicago carries it. Happy Spring!!! (Chicago received two inches of snow on the first day of spring…. )
How fun! Looks like you’re ready for the season.
