Pinboard to Dashboard with Buick Encore

I so don’t write about cars on this blog. That was my first thought when I read the email asking if we wanted to participate in Buick’s Pinboard to Dashboard program. Let’s face it, I write about food. Plus, for years I totally avoided driving at all costs when I lived in the city. Now that we moved a little bit out of the city, I’m more OK with it, and actually really enjoy my alone time in the car… but I drive a tiny Mini, which means I’m not at too much risk for hitting things. I’ve never really considered a luxury SUV, but the more I learned about the Buick Encore (a SMALL luxury crossover), the more I liked it. It’s an SUV but I feel like I’d still be totally comfortable driving it (and the rearview camera means I’d be comfortable parking, too!). It looks totally sleek and most definitely like a “me” car. And furthermore, it would totally fit all my grocery bags in the back (something my little car often cannot do!). And some day (SOME DAY), I want to be able to fit a kid or two in there. Or maybe just a backseat full of cupcakes. We’ll see.

Several bloggers participating in this program got to head to Detroit to actually meet with the Encore design team and tour the facilities. I couldn’t get away from work, but I still wanted to participate in the pinning portion of the program because I loved the creativity behind it and knew it would be fun. So, though I missed out on what looked like an awesome trip with some fabulous bloggers, I still got to create a Pinterest board featuring my inspiration for my own personal Encore. Plus, there’s a chance I could win and have my own inspiration for the Encore come to life. We are not Martha definitely doesn’t have the level of Pinterest following as some of the other participating bloggers who have millions (I really haven’t promoted the account and still haven’t put the Pinterest button on the blog). But no time like the present, so follow us on Pinterest! And follow my own personal boards if you want, too. And by all means, “like” and repin the pins on my Buick Encore inspiration board. If I win, maybe I’ll take you for a drive. French Laundry, anyone?

Anyway, I absolutely love that I could take this:

And end up with this:

Many of my pins have to do with food as you know my ultimate driving experience would involve lots and lots of it.

In fact, one of my favorite pins is this map featuring the foods of each state. I’d like to immediately take a few weeks off from work and drive across (and around) the country trying every one of them.

And love the idea that I could fit lots and lots of these in the backseat and trunk of the Encore.

But I also loved thinking about the other ways I’d customize my Encore if I could do absolutely anything I wanted. You know how I feel about all things sparkle… And while I wouldn’t drive around a “sparkle mobile,” I think I’d like some hidden little touches that are there just for me. Like in the glove compartment box.

You have no idea how tempted I was to design a pink Encore. I restrained myself. I am an adult, after all. Ugh.

But really, I love various shades of gray (but only 49 of them) with splashes of purple mixed in. It got me thinking about how it’s fun to create your own little environment with ambient lighting in the car at night. And how Chris never lets me turn the purple on when he’s driving. Maybe My Encore’s only option would be purple? It’s letting out my girly side without making a scene.

I am totally going for a pale mint green exterior, though. I can’t help myself and you only live once.

While I didn’t know too much about the Buick brand before talking with the team, I learned a lot about the Encore that I liked. For instance:

  • It’s luxury, but it’s small luxury. Comfortably fits five passengers (or lots and lots of grocery bags and/or homemade baked goods).
  • It has the highest fuel economy of any front-wheel-drive crossover from a U.S. automaker (EPA of 25 city/33 highway).
  • It’s purty. And comes in purty colors. These things are important to me.
  • It comes standard with the super cool “IntelliLink,” a seven-inch, high-res, full-color display radio with Siris/XM (Yess, that means I can listen to my favorite station, The Highway once again!), voice recognition, Bluetooth phone and audio. I propose that this voice recognition Bluetooth business listens to me recite and documents my grocery list while I’m driving. And perhaps my next great American novel.
  • QuietTuning with Bose Active Noise Cancellation technology. First off, great use of Bose technology! Second off, does that mean I won’t be able to hear all the cars honking at me? Just kidding. It simply means I’ll be able to hear my audiobooks better.
  • Rearview camera. Hello. I don’t have to be afraid of parking anymore.
  • 10 air bags. Just in case.
  • Did I mention that everything listed above comes standard? Because it does.
  • Oh, and the price starts at $24,950. I like that.

Plus, I love brands that are using Pinterest and using it well. This promotion is the way of the future. And I like being a part of that.

If you like my pins, please by all means, “like” them and re-pin them as much as you want! This is how I’ll move onto the next round of the competition for the possibility to bring my Encore to life. Thanks, friends!

What feature would you give a Buick Encore if you could design your dream car?

I love the idea for this campaign. And the fact that you would put glitter in your car is the best ever. I would probably throw in some bright yellow and lime green!

This is such a creative idea for a campaign. I hate driving, so if the car could drive for me, I would be all set. :)
