24 Things That Made Me Happy in 2010

I went back and forth on whether or not I should write a 2010 roundup. After all, I already blogged about the whole year while it was happening. And let’s be honest, lots of my favorites are likely to be the same as Chels’s favorites. But then I decided it wouldn’t be the end of the year if I didn’t do something… So I’m writing a list of the things that made me happy in 2010.

2010 was my best year yet! I say that every year, which I’m pretty sure is a really good thing. I hope I can say that every single year!!

#1 Our WANM 2-year blogiversary

#5 Seeing Frightened Rabbit in concert

Music makes me happy. And seeing bands I absolutely love makes me even happier. I saw Frightened Rabbit at the Paradise earlier this year and it was one of my all-time favorite shows. Even though it was on a Wed. night or something at 11 p.m. and I felt like the oldest person in the world trying to stay awake.

#6 Discovering my new salon, Rock, Paper, Scissors

I haven’t had a salon to call my own since high school. For the last 9 years I’ve been bouncing around from salon to salon. Until this year. I discovered Rock, Paper, Scissors and have been back multiple times to get my hair cut, highlighted, and dyed by Sami. And I know I’ll be back tons more in 2011!

This year, I went to visit Chris’s family in Virginia for the first time. I had never been to Virginia before and had tons of fun meeting Chris’s family and Ricky and Shelly and exploring the Richmond area. We’ll be going back in a couple weeks and I can’t wait to see more!

I was scared of yeast at the beginning of 2010. But now that 2010 is over, I feel like I’ve almost mastered the art of yeast and baking bread (OK, maybe not mastered…). I made a lot of bread in 2010 and yup, many more loaves will be made in 2011!

#24 Getting engaged!!

Of course, the thing that made me the happiest in 2010 was getting engaged to Chris! It made for an extra special holiday season.

IMG_2496

Phew. Those definitely weren’t all the things that made happy. I had tons of fun times with my friends, family, and more. But I think it’s safe to say I had a pretty fabulous year.

2010 was also great for WANM as a whole. We saw our traffic grow and grow and had our best month yet in December :) We clearly had tons of blog-related fun, too! We both always wonder what we’d be doing without blogging! We can’t wait to see what 2011 brings for We are not Martha (we already have a few things in the works!).

Happy new year to you!!! I hope 2011 is wonderful for everyone :) :)

What are you most looking forward to in 2011?

Sues’s 2009 Recap… Loved This Year!

And now for my 2009 year in review! I’m leaving out a bunch of things since Chels and I obviously have a lot of 2009 favorites in common. But SO much stuff happened this year. At the end of every year, I always say, “this was my best year yet!” and I always mean it. Luckily for me, I can say the same about 2009!! It was filled with family, friends, food, and lots of love and good times. After writing about it, I realize I’m kind of obsessed with it.

January

I don’t have a whole lot of photos from January (and yes, I determine what I’ve done in the past year from iPhoto), but since the January weather in Boston is nothing fun, I’m guessing I was just doing a lot of hanging out. My mom also had foot/knee surgery, so I spent a lot of time at my parents’ house (and we’re all SO thankful she’s all healed up now!). My sister and Adam were working in the area too and we cooked my parents a big anniversary dinner (33 years!). Gosh, this feels like so long ago, though!

Chels and I also got to hang out with our buddies 2GuysUncorked:

February

Another quiet (and snowy) month. I hosted Cupcake-a-Thon with a bunch of my friends. We all made different cupcakes and paired them with drinks. It was a blast… And I don’t think I ate cupcakes for a couple months after.

Chels and I were featured in a Boston Globe article about local food bloggers.

March

My sister’s first wedding shower was hosted in Chicago and my mom and I obviously flew down for the event!

DSCN3236

Also, Groupon launched in Boston and I became the community manager. Oh, and also, I became a Mac user. And it’s true what they say, I’ll never go back!

April

Chels and I had our video debut with how2heros. It was so much fun and we’re so happy to have met such an awesome group of people!

May

One of my best friends and my college roommate, Kyle, got engaged! She’s marrying someone who is pretty perfect for her and I’m SO SO excited to be in her wedding and help her get planning- I’m a bridesmaid! The upcoming wedding is going be make 2010 pretty awesome!

DSCN3713

And speaking of weddings, we hosted my sister’s wedding shower in Boston. Many of my relatives came to Boston and we had such an amazing weekend.

DSCN3651

And yes, Chels designed the prettiest invitations and place-cards for the party. If you need invites or any type of cards designed, she comes highly recommended (seriously, from pretty much everyone who has seen her work!). And I’m not just saying that because I love her!

June

I attended the Craft Beer Fest and discovered tons of new beers! I’ve always been a beer-drinker and have never been into the light, cheap stuff. But ever since meeting Chris, I’ve learned so much about beer.

DSCN0144

DSCN0129

My sister and Adam were living in New Bedford… While I wish they were right IN Boston, it was still fun to visit them- they lived right at the beach! And we spent one weekend visiting local wineries. Winery visits are definitely something I want to do more of in 2010!

July

My sister and Adam’s bachelorette/bachelor party took place. On a cruise to the Bahamas! I got quite a bit of much-needed sun (OK, maybe a little too much) and had a blast celebrating with the wedding party!

DSCN0578

DSCN0548

I also became a Gap Brand Ambassador and re-discovered the Gap… Seriously, I hadn’t shopped there since middle school, but their little makeover definitely worked in their favor! Plus, I’m still obsessed with my Born to Blog t-shirt.

DSCN0605

DSCN0604

Chels and I were also featured in a Boston Herald article about picnics in the city.

picnicincity.jpg

And we got our website makeover!! Yes, July was crazy busy!

August

I had my Gap Born to Fit party and everyone got to try Gap’s new 1969 jeans (and take a pair home)!

We also attended the Healthy Living Summit and got to meet some new, awesome bloggers!

September

Obviously the highlight of September was my sister and Adam’s wedding. It was an absolutely amazing week and everything about it was pretty perfect! We have some of the best memories from that weekend.

But I also had a pretty fabulous birthday.

October

October brought an awesome trip to New York City complete with way too many cupcakes and lots of good food.

DSCN1652

DSCN1821

And a trip to Chicago for Butterball University!

November

November was filled with awesomeness too. First was the Foodbuzz Fest in San Fran!

Then, less than a week later I was off to Hawaii!

DSCN3658

DSCN3484

And then, it was Thanksgiving. We had a nice low-key one with my parents, Chris, and my neighbors.

In really sad news, my Aunt and Uncle’s dog Cissy passed away. If you’ve been following the blog for a while, you knew Cissy and how sweet she was. I remember when they brought her home from the breeder (I was 11) and have been dog-sitting for her since I was in college. I already miss her tons!!

December

Like Chels said, 2009 was filled with lots of blogger meet-ups and parties with friends.

partysteven.jpg

And, of course, the holidays! Chris and I also celebrated our 1-year anniversary in December. Awww :) It’s been an amazing year and we’re looking forward to lots more fun in 2010!

I am so so excited to see what 2010 brings and have a feeling it’s going to be pretty much awesome! I feel like I’m in such a good place right now as far as my work (I love freelancing!), family (my sister and Adam will be in Boston soon!), friends (I have the best!), and everything. Chels and I have come so far in our blog in the past year and we’re looking forward to celebrating our 2 year anniversary next week!! I can’t even believe it.

Happy New Year to everyone!! Thank you for being our readers and friends and I hope 2010 is absolutely wonderful for all of us :)
