GIVEAWAY Winner and down:2:earth Recap!

This past Friday we had the pleasure of visiting a “preview” of the down:2:earth sustainable living expo held at Boston’s Hynes Convention Center. Friday night’s preview was called Local Bites and we attended to check out the products and see what Boston’s sustainable restaurants have to offer.

We stopped by the booth of one of our favorite Brookline restaurants, The Fireplace, first thing because their food looked (and smelled) so amazing… as usual. We sampled the fresh forage mushroom and fava bean ragu over cheesy cornmeal porridge from the spectacular Chef Jim Solomon. Look for this dish on The Fireplace’s new Spring menu, which is launching April 28th. Yes, we will mark this date on our calendar.

We also dined on delicious oysters from the New England Aquarium and fried clam sandwiches from Lineage in Brookline.

Of course We are not Martha loved Preserve, a company that makes everyday products out of 100% recycled materials. Their plastic cutting boards are not only super durable, but they’re also quite attractive in their bright and bold colors. They have lots of fun kitchen products like colanders, mixing bowls, measuring cups, and more. We’re also a fan of their Paperstone cutting board, made with 100% post-consumer recycled paper. Find Preserve products at Whole Foods, Target, and Trader Joe’s. Their slogan “Nothing wasted. Everything gained” sums them up quite nicely!

Preserve also sells toothbrushes with handles made from 100% recycled plastic. And when you’re ready to throw your old toothbrush away, you can print out a postage-paid label and mail it back to them. Perfect!

One of our favorite products at d:2:e was Flavrz Drink Mix.

Flavrz is a concentrated drink mix that you add to water. We were shocked because this didn’t taste like your typical flavored water and there’s absolutely nothing artificial about it. Flavrz is made with agave nectar and is very low in sugar. Also, you can add as little or as much as you want to your water for different flavor intensities (and calorie amounts!).

Flavrz encourages you to drink tap water by allowing you to make it more exciting.

We were also informed by the lovely lady at the Flavrz booth that we could add the drink mix to vodka for a fun, lower-calorie drink. Or add some chipped ice to the Lemon Lime one and make yourself a great pitcher of lemonade for a hot Summer day. We’ll test it out and let you know…

Upstairs on the Square
was also at d:2:e with some of their delicious vegan desserts, convincing us that we really need to get to Upstairs on the Square for a full meal!

We were also thrilled to see Lush at d:2:e. The salesgirl Belicca gave us both amazing hand treatments with some of Lush’s best products. Neither of us knew it was possible for our hands to be so soft! Highly recommended and purchased products by Chels: Ocean Salt and Dream Cream, both of which were used in the hand treatment, but can be used on your entire body. I’ve been using it everyday and it’s pretty unreal. Knowing it’s all natural and gentle on sensitive skin makes it that much better!

We spent at least a half an hour at the Lush booth and smelled every single product at least once.

Lush has stores all around the world and lucky for us, there’s one right on Newbury Street in Boston so we can stop in for more any time we want. They also have easy online shopping too!
