Orange Creamsicle Cocktail with Honest Fizz (and an Honest Tea Giveaway!)

Orange Creamsicle Cocktail.jpg

Is it a cocktail? Is it a dessert? Is it the best drink ever? Well, I’ll let you decide. But just for the record, I’m going with all of the above. Mostly because I love any and all things creamsicle flavor and also, vodka. And fizz, too. I know it’s not Friday, but man, don’t you wish it were? It’s actually only Wednesday. Have you actually ever met anyone whose favorite day is Wednesday? No. You never hear people say, “I just LOVE Wednesdays; they’re the best!” In fact, more people probably love Mondays than love Wednesdays since at least Monday offers you the opportunity for a fresh start. Wednesday is the worst, other than Tuesday, which I’d basically vote out of the week if I had that kind of authority. I’m just all set with you, Tuesday and Wednesday; stay away. Only don’t, because we need you in order to get to Friday.

While Cocktail Friday is kinda my thing, sometimes I think Cocktail Wednesday is more appropriate. So this week I’m doing it. And not just Cocktail Wednesday, but Ice Cream Wednesday and Vodka Wednesday, too. Might this just be the best Wednesday ever?

A couple weeks ago, Vijay of NoshOn.It sent me a whole bunch of Honest Tea products, including their brand new Honest Fizz, and I immediately knew I needed to create a cocktail. And I knew it had to be with Orange Pop because orange soda is one of my faves. Except with Honest Fizz, I don’t have to drink my calories. Because there aren’t any since the soda is sweetened with Stevia. This is awesome for me since I really don’t drink much soda at all. Even diet kinda skeeves me out… But I know I can feel good about the Honest Tea brand, so I’m very excited to have these in my life for when I soda craving hits.

Right now, Honest Fizz comes in Root Beer, Lemon Limey, Professor Fizz (um, cherry?), and Orange Pop flavors. Yes, I’m a little confused as to why the cherry is labeled “Professor,” but I’ll let it go since it’s delicious. I’m also thrilled to have a zero calorie Root Beer drink.

Orange Creamsicle Cocktail with Honest Fizz (makes 2 drinks):

Print this recipe!

  • 1 C orange juice
  • 2 C vanilla ice cream
  • 5 oz. vodka
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 12 oz. Orange Pop Honest Fizz
  • Fresh orange, for garnish (optional)

I decided to get a little fancy with my cocktail and whip up an orange reduction to boost the orange flavor profiles in my drink. I should make it clear that you don’t have to do this if you’re looking to make a super quick and easy cocktail. Just the Honest Fizz with ice cream, vodka, and a little vanilla would make a delicious cocktail in about 2-minutes flat. You know me; I just like to get a little crazy sometimes.

Basically, I brought one cup of orange juice to a boil in a medium saucepan and let it simmer until it was reduced by about half. Then I popped it in the fridge to chill.

When the orange reduction is chilled, plop your ice cream in two glasses. And yes, plop is my favorite verb.

Orange Creamsicle Cocktail Ice Cream.jpg

Divide orange reduction, vodka, and vanilla between the two glasses.

And then pour Orange Pop Honest Fizz into glasses to completely fill.

You could also garnish with an orange. Which was my original intent. As you can see from the above image, I even sliced one up! But somehow, it didn’t land in my drink. Orange fail.

But no matter because this orange concoction was already a pure delight and it didn’t really need that extra garnish! A red striped straw did the trick, anyway. The drink was full of orange flavor and the vanilla ice cream and extra vanilla extract definitely gave it that delicious creamsicle taste.

Plus, I love the way the Honest Fizz combined with the ice cream to bring forth the perfect frothy fizz. There’s nothing better than that.

I keep forgetting that there’s vodka in this drink, but hello, that’s what makes it a cocktail. Which is what makes my Wednesday wonderful.

Hooray for cocktails! With zero calorie, naturally sweetened soda! I’m pretty sure Honest Fizz is one of those drinks I’ll always have a box or two of in my pantry for when the cocktail craving hits (which is quite often these days!).

And now I want you to have a chance to try it!

Blueberry Pie Milkshake

Blueberry Pie Milkshake.psd
Pie in a jar is a thing. I know. But I prefer milkshakes in jars. Or in just plain old glasses. Or straight out of the blender and into my mouth. Not that I’d ever be a pig like that. At least not when anyone is home to see me. (which means you’ll never really know). Basically, what I’m trying to say is pie in jars is cool and all, but milkshakes in jars are better. So, pie milkshakes in jars are the ultimate. I clearly rocked my college logic class and even moved on to become a logic TA (wow, that sounds a lot nerdier when you actually write it down), but I don’t think you have to be a logic-tician to figure out that something cool and something way cooler make something that’s cool on a whole new level. Like blueberry milkshakes.
I never can decide if I like apple or blueberry pie the best. I think it probably depends on the season and right now it’s just about beautiful, glorious blueberry season. As someone who can eat blueberries by the bushel, I’m very happy about this change in the seasons. And you knew it wouldn’t take long for me to break out my blender for a milkshake since I basically never put it away my milkshake making is so frequent. In case you’re worried (which I’m sure you’re not), I’ve already begun on the summer ice cream-making fun, too. This is going to be the year of frozen treats. I can feel it. And taste it. It’s going to be a good one.

Blueberry Pie Milkshake (makes 2):
Print this recipe!

  • 1 1/2 C blueberries
  • 1/8 C powdered sugar
  • 1/8 C water
  • 3 C vanilla ice cream
  • 5 graham crackers

Blueberry Pie Milkshake Ingredients.jpg

First you’ll want to make a lovely little blueberry puree. Or syrup. Or something that resembles blueberry pie filling. And is delicious. All you have to do is combine the blueberries, powdered sugar, and water in a small saucepan over medium high heat.

Blueberry Pie Milkshake Powdered Sugar.jpg

Wait patiently while the mixture comes to a boil.

Blueberry Pie Milkshake Powdered Cook.jpg

And then lower the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring from time to time. It will thicken up and the blueberries will start to burst and get all delicious-looking.

Then comes the tough part: letting it cool. I recommend putting the blueberry syrup in a bowl and sticking it in the fridge.

When it’s cooled to an acceptable temperature (i.e. not hot to the touch anymore), you can get blending. Put the blueberry mixture along with 3 cups of ice cream and 4 graham crackers in a blender. Shout-out to my Vitamix. I should also mention that you could TOTALLY make your own ice cream for this milkshake. But me? I wanted this one ASAP and didn’t have time to wait for that.

Blueberry Pie Milkshake Blender.jpg

And blend until well-combined. And a beautiful color. Who says blue/purple foods aren’t natural?

Blueberry Pie Milkshake Blended.jpg

Pour into a glass. Or a jar. I know the whole mason jar thing is such an overdone trend, but I’m pretty sure I won’t ever stop. Whenever I’m making a drink and have to get a glass out, I can’t resist the mason jar. They just look good. And who cares if everyone else is doing it, anyway? Do what you love.

Blueberry Pie Milkshake 2.jpg

Oh, I forgot to mention that you should give your mason car (or glass. or blender) a graham cracker rim with that leftover graham cracker. I used a little of the blueberry syrup to get my graham cracker crumbs to stick.

Blueberry Pie Milkshake 4.jpg

Do you like how I said I forgot to tell you something and instead of just going and editing my directions, I added it in exactly when and where I remembered it? I think that accurately describes how incredibly tired I am right now. It’s been a rough one. And we’re not even halfway through.

Blueberry Pie Milkshake 7.jpg

Right now, I’m trying my very best not to get sick. I’m knocking on wood as I type this (really), but I haven’t been sick since last May. A few weeks more and it will be an entire a year. I know I just totally jinxed myself, especially since I can feel my immune system declining (that’s a thing. I can really feel it); but I’m going to fight it with all I’ve got.

And blueberries are packed with antioxidants.

Blueberry Pie Milkshake 3.jpg

Soooo. Come on milkshake, don’t let me down. I might just eat the leftover blueberries by the handful now. Or find a way to inject them into my immune system. I’d probably leave the ice cream out… Though the extra calcium couldn’t hurt.

Blueberry Pie Milkshake 5.jpg

This was way easier and faster to make them blueberry pie. And if you like your blueberry pie a la mode, this is basically that but in a mason jar. With no chewing involved.

Blueberry Pie Milkshake 8.jpg

Not that I’m so lazy I wouldn’t chew a piece of pie. You know what I mean. Milkshakes are just always better. And even if I do end up getting sick, I’m pretty sure a purple milkshake would help make me feel much better!

Pie, pie milkshakes, or both?
